How Much Are You Paying???

Compare Suppliers

Hi folks, I’m Jon Mullen the Energy Evangelist. This month we're looking at savings on your water resources, and today we’re talking about buying water from the right supplier.

Deregulation is the word for business water supplies in England, Wales & Scotland. This means that a business can purchase water from a third party intermediary, also known as a TPI, or a utility broker. Water supply was deregulated in Scotland in 2008, and 2017 in England and Wales. This allows businesses to choose who they want to purchase their water supply and waste water services from. Currently if an individual business approaches a water supplier they will inevitably be charged the Recommended Retail Price as defined by OFWAT. That means you will always end up paying the full price for your water.

However, utility brokers are able to negotiate better pricing and services, and will help you make the right decisions on how to save money on these contracts. Just a quick note for our friends in Northern Ireland - you still have only one commercial water supplier so you can’t save money on your business water supply contract, but you can make sure you are in the correct rateable group and this will confirm you are being charged correctly.
