In The Bathroom

Bathrooms

Hi folks, I’m Jon Mullen the Energy Evangelist. This month we're looking at savings on your water resources, and today we’re up close and personal in the bathroom.

How can we save resources and money in the wee room. To save the most water at each basin you should have automatic taps which will switch off the water flow after a fixed time. This will also reduce the chance of flooding because of a blocked drain.

Another choice is to install waterless urinals for the men to save even more off the water bill. Each standard urinal will cost you between £1 and £2 every day which includes the cost or water and maintenance, so let's say £1.50 per day. That is nearly £550 per year including maintenance and cleaning. Whereas a waterless urinal will only cost approx £60 per year, saving just under £500 each year. And again they will reduce the chance of overflow or flooding.

And now onto your older toilet cisterns. You should fit a water hippo, or a small brick in your cistern. This reduces the water in your cistern, and can reduce your water usage by up to 3 litres for every flush.

So for every single bathroom you could save more than £650 a year. More cash in your pocket.
